What Cloudflare Changed

Cloudflare published a billing and indexing update for AI Search on November 2, 2026. The company moved the start of AI Search usage billing from November 1 to December 1, 2026. Its announcement says customers will not be charged for AI Search usage before the new start date, while the pricing model and included usage remain unchanged. That is a change in timing, not an announced price reduction.

Indexing Now Defaults to 24 Hours

Cloudflare also says the default sync interval for AI Search instances is changing from six hours to 24 hours. Teams can still select supported intervals from 15 minutes through 24 hours in instance settings or via the sync_interval API parameter. The update describes a default, not a forced 24-hour limit on every configuration.

Why It Matters for Software Buyers

Usage billing and index freshness are separate operational decisions. Moving the billing date provides extra time to estimate likely ingestion, storage and query activity before charges begin. But a longer scheduled sync interval can mean an external content source is reflected later in search results unless the team selects a shorter interval or triggers updates using supported methods.

What to Verify Right Now

Review the AI Search instance’s actual sync interval rather than assuming the new default has already changed every existing configuration. Record any overrides, check the date and currency of your estimated charges and confirm the limits of any included usage. For a website with frequent pricing or documentation changes, a daily sync may not fit the publishing workflow.

Our Take

The significant news is the combination of a billing postponement and a default that may influence freshness. It would be misleading to describe this as a permanent free plan or an across-the-board feature downgrade. Decide whether the available indexing options match how quickly your underlying data changes, and validate the current billing terms directly with Cloudflare. We have not tested an AI Search account or measured retrieval latency for this update.

Verification note. The dates and sync options above come from Cloudflare’s November 2 release note. Vendor pricing and API behavior may evolve. DigiOffly did not carry out first-hand testing for this news report.
